While the Montgomery County Clean Energy Rewards program is beneficial, current economic conditions are affecting many County programs. As a result, WGES has been notified by the County that funding for the Clean Energy Rewards program will be discontinued on June 15, 2010. Clean Energy Rewards provided Montgomery County homes and businesses an incentive for purchasing clean, renewable energy.
Customers already enrolled in the program will continue to earn rewards for clean energy used until June 15, 2010. WGES will continue to supply green power to all CleanStepsSM WindPower customers through the duration of their contracts. After June 15, 2010, currently enrolled customers will stop receiving Clean Energy Rewards on their electricity bill.
CER after June 15, 2010
The Clean Energy Rewards program will continue to offer information about clean energy sources, local clean energy suppliers, solar energy options, and incentives offered by utilities and other government programs.
CER Made a Difference!
Since its inception in 2007, the Clean Energy Rewards program has encouraged over 6,000 residents and 300 businesses to make the switch from electricity generated by fossil-fuel fired power plants to clean energy sources like wind and solar. Together, program participants have avoided over 120,000 tons of carbon dioxide by switching to clean energy!
