Did You Know? WGES Supports solar power locally:
- Kelly Project: In December 2008, WGES helped develop one of Maryland's largest solar power systems at the headquarters of John E. Kelly & Sons Electrical Construction in Prince George's County. Nearly 9,000 square feet of solar panels cover the building’s roof, generating enough electricity to meet more than half the needs of the 20,000 square foot office/warehouse facility. Learn more.
- Sousa Middle School: In January 2009, during a national day of service, WGES helped bring solar power to Sousa Middle School in Washington, D.C. Compared to electricity supplied by burning coal, the newly installed solar demonstration project reduces carbon emissions by about 4,760 pounds in a typical 12-month period. From another perspective, this carbon offset is equivalent to planting approximately one acre of trees. Learn more.
- Catholic University: In late 2009, WGES helped fund the installation of more than 1,000 solar panels on four Catholic University buildings, creating the largest solar-energy system in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Over thirty thousand square feet of solar panels were installed. Learn more.
